Bear Den

A high performance home in the mountains of the Mad River Valley. This was built as a forever home for some long time residents who wanted a bright, cozy, and healthy home that honored their land that they have cared for for many years. The inside and outside spaces blend seamlessly through the seasons.

What do you think about those windows and doors?

Little sneak peak of a house we just finished high up on the Northfield Ridge. Lots of creative details on this project. Huge corner windows, local Hemlock siding, great slick soffit venting through the fascia all around into the vented overroof, R86 dense pack ceilings, 0.32ACH50, all electric, and more miters than you can shake a stick at.

The attention to detail that Will and Carmine and everyone else put into this exterior is so impressive. Truly a labor of love with green material straight from the sawmill. It will be fun to watch this Hemlock age over time.

There’s something about walking into this home.

Lots of natural light, perfect year round temperature, quiet, fresh and filtered air. We really don’t understand how valuable this is until you experience a home crafted with sound building science principles along with an incredible energy efficient design and construction.

You have to experience it to realize just how life changing living in a healthy home can be!

They say windows are the eyes to the soul. Or maybe it’s the other way around. The windows we use the majority of the time are triple European tilt and turn windows.
These work the best with our energy efficient homes and they allow lots of natural light to brighten up the house.
Can you imagine being next to a large window in the middle of winter in our cold climate and not feeling chilly?
