Picked up this sweet used Ford Lightning for a really sweet deal. Only 4400 miles!!! and someone traded it in because they couldn’t flat tow it behind their RV.
And before anyone says it we know we can’t tow our super huge macho stuff behind it for 800 miles everyday without stopping to charge and we know it gets worse efficiency in the winter and we know it isn’t a 1-ton truck, but it beats commuting in the super duty over App Gap everyday and it will help reduce our company wide emissions and it fits our needs.

When are they coming out with an electric AWD Ford Maverick???

We need to name it, any suggestions?

Some details on an awesome snowy morning of this passive house almost hitting 10 years old. No paint or finishes on the main house, just natural weathering. Narrow reveal CVG clapboards with mitered corners doing their thing. I wonder how many thousands of pieces we mitered to join these corners. We glued them and miter clamped them, fastened them with 23 gauge brad nails-still holding up tightly.
West facing solar panels on the 12 pitch barn roof clear themselves of snow very quickly. The 5 pitch roof facing south with solar not so quick.

Beautiful crisp week for putting all the windows and doors in this home with some epic views. What a different feeling in the space once we got all the glass in!
These triple glazed, solid White Oak with aluminum clad exteriors that tilt and turn sure are gorgeous. The lift and slide doors also have achieved legendary status.
10’ tall windows? Yup. This house sure will be cozy and warm while looking out at the 270 degree mountain view’s.
They were a bit heavy but our team only had fun together putting them in. We had to get creative on a few as our window vacuum lift didn’t play well with some of the simulated divided lights. Glad to be surrounded by such great carpenters and team members.

For our next highlighted project we present the Bragg Hill home. This was a fun and challenging project. The owners came to us with the designs to build their forever home. They wanted a high performance and low maintenance home that they didn’t have to worry about so that they could spend their time traveling, skiing, biking, walking, and being outside and with their family.
They had bought land with an epic long view of their favorite mountains, up on a hill, yet also close to the center of town. The land was challenging, being wet and steep(over 70’ of elevation from the road to the bottom of the building envelope) with the house located in the path of a fair amount of groundwater.
Basement waterproofing and water management was key on this site. 6” footing drains were essential for moving water away from the uphill side of the foundation that was also retaining the hillside. Did I mention the entire roof drained to the uphill side of the house as well?
The 3400sqft home was designed by @via_eyes and we worked with the architects and @efficiencyvt to plan out all the energy details.
As always sustainability, energy efficiency, and no fossil fuels were the project goals as well as a fixed price and a set schedule. These were all key to the projects success.
With a 0.53ach50 blower door test(sub passive house level), triple glazed European tilt and turn windows from Logic, a thick envelope of dense packed cellulose for R-46 walls and R-70 ceilings and R-32 under the thermally broken basement slab the tiny heating system keeps this home cozy and warm in the winter. For those paying attention the home has two air to air Mitsubishi heat pump systems - one ducted and one wall cassette for a total of 27,000btu’s of heating and cooling(that’s minuscule)
Covid shut us down the day we started hanging drywall. I was grateful the home was weathertight as the location can get some brutal weather. What a scary time that was!
After a break we were allowed to get back to work in what felt like a truly different world. We finished out this home over the next few months and were really happy how it turned out.
